I will always remember Al for all the good he did for my home town, and as a friend, classmate. With his issues he put up one heck of a fight! Jesus chose to call him home. I know for one he is in the right place, and has a lot of treasures laied up.

A good man.  We went all though school together, starting in Anson Elementary.  In the years after school Al had a gas station on Center Street I believe and served on City Council and has been the life and soul of what is good about Heartland America.  I miss him.  One of the saints.  Rest in Peace.

It hurts to have lost another one from the MHS Class of 1964. In this particular case, however, I was privileged to have had a close up view of his time on this side. Master Sargent Al Hoop spent a quiet life serving and giving. It is my honor to have been able to call him a friend. Rip, Al.

Al made the world and especially Marshalltown a better place for all of us.  Al's community service was the epitomore of giving, from a very kind and generous heart.  He was an awesome servant leader.  He served his family, city and country with a special dignity.

Thanks so much, Al.   Your special and humble service will not be forgotten. Rest in everlasting peace, my friend.

From the neighborhood thru our junior & high school years, Class Reunions & retirement, we were friends. Al did so much for the MHS High School athletic dept. and the city of Marshalltown. It was a better place with him in it. RIP, Al Hoop, you deserve it.

It has taken some time for me to share my memories of Al. He was one of my very best friends growing up on the south side. We started kindergarten together at Anson in 1950. We were in Cub Scouts, Gra-Y basketball and we hung out together at Anson Playground during the summers playing softball and baseball. In junior high school, we were teammates in football, basketball, and track.

We got back together in the early 1970’s after we had both served in the military. We played in men’s league basketball in the winter and many softball games over the years.

In 1974 I joined Al at Fisher Controls in the Research Dept. We worked in the same department for nearly 30 years.

During the early1970'ss he began dating Donna Burns from Legrand and they were married in 1976. They were blessed with three sons who all went on to graduate from college.

Needless to say, I will miss seeing him, but I plan on seeing him once again.

R.I.P. my friend
